Noah’s Tuesday Tidbit: The Old Trick That Ignites Growth

This weekend, I tried to start my 1970 Land Rover after a long winter in the garage.

The battery was charged. Fresh gas. Everything should’ve worked.

These engines are built for life. I’ve seen videos of old Land Rovers dragged out of forests after 45 years—still firing up.

Mine didn’t.

Just the engine spinning.

So I tried a classic, old-school trick: I popped the air filter, gave the carb a splash of fuel, and boom—she fired right up.

Here’s what hit me: Many companies are in the same spot.

They’ve got great people. Solid products. Good systems.

But growth has stalled. Sales feel sluggish. Customer loyalty is shaky. Everyone’s doing “stuff,” but nothing’s catching.

They keep turning the key, hoping momentum magically shows up.

It won’t.

The good news is you don’t need to rebuild everything. You don't need a new engine or to start tearing things apart.

You need to get your team focused on the few things that actually move the business forward.

The stuff that drives growth.

The stuff that keeps customers.

The stuff that gets lost in the noise of Slack, meetings, and busywork.

Most teams don’t have a clarity problem. They have a focus problem.

So here’s your challenge this week:

Pick one team—sales, service, ops.

Ask them: “What are 3 things you do every day that directly drive growth?”

Then ask: “Can you explain how each one actually moves the business forward?”

If they can’t, or if the answers are all over the place—that’s your red flag.

If the answers are fuzzy, scattered, or disconnected from revenue… the engine’s spinning, but it’s not firing.

Let’s fix that.
